Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South
Thanks for your support – let’s move forward
October 21, 2021

With the election campaign now behind us, I want to express my sincere thanks to the residents of Winnipeg South for re-electing me as your member of Parliament. It is truly an honour to represent this growing and dynamic community.

Over the last several weeks, my team and I have had the privilege of speaking with thousands of constituents. Whether it was at your doorstep or over the phone, I appreciated the frank conversations we had about the issues that matter to you.

For many Winnipeg South residents, finishing the fight against COVID-19 and protecting our health care system continues to be a top priority.

Our government has committed to do this by procuring enough vaccines to provide boosters to vulnerable groups, and by moving forward with mandatory vaccinations for travel.

We have also made a pledge to improve our health-care system — with investments of $10 billion to eliminate wait-lists, and $3 billion to hire 7,500 new family doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners. All Canadians deserve a health-care system that is reliable, accessible, and prepared to take care of you in your time of need.

Another major issue that came up at doorsteps was the importance of taking concerted action to protect the environment and fight against climate change.

We know that climate change is the greatest long-term threat of our lifetime, and that we must work towards a cleaner, greener future. Our government has a strong plan that will build a net zero electricity grid, invest heavily in transit, support the development of clean technology, implement an aggressive home and building retrofit program, and plant two billion trees.

I believe that we can protect our environment and address climate change while also growing our economy, creating good jobs, and making our country a more affordable place to live.

To make life more affordable we’re moving forward with $10-per-day childcare, support for first-time home buyers, and continued subsidies for small businesses as they recover from COVID-19.

As your member of Parliament, I am firmly committed to championing these measures that will help our vibrant, diverse community to become an even better place to live.

Winnipeg South MP Terry Duguid writes that he heard from many constituents during the recent election, and pledges to act on their concerns.
