Statement on Islamophobic Car Attack in London, ON
June 9, 2021
I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news coming out of London, Ontario, where a family of four has been killed in an abhorrent, hate-motivated car attack because of their Muslim faith.
My condolences to all who are grieving this loss, including the Muslim community in London and across Canada.
Islamophobia is real, and it has painful, deadly consequences.
The Manitoba Islamic Association will be hosting a drive-in vigil for the victims of the Islamophobic car attack in London, ON tomorrow, Thursday June 10 at 8 pm. Manitobans can participate in the drive-in vigil at the Grand Mosque at 2445 Waverley Street, or virtually via Facebook and Youtube. All individuals interested in participating must register at miaonline.org/OurLondonFamily.
My sincere thanks to the MIA for organizing this important vigil as our Muslim communities in London, Winnipeg and across Canada grieve the terrible loss of the Afzaal family.
We stand in solidarity with our Muslim community following this senseless act of terror. As Canadians, we must come together to fight against Islamophobia, hate and racism in all its forms.
