Our government recognizes how difficult the Covid-19 pandemic has been for young families. To support them in keeping up with necessary expenses like child care, food, and clothing, our government is announcing a CCB young child supplement, that will provide families with up to $1,200 per child under the age of six in 2021. This benefit is expected to help 1.6 million families and over two million children across Canada.
The Canada Child Benefit is an important financial lifeline for many families, including over 18,000 families in our Winnipeg South community who receive the CCB. The benefit helps parents buy healthy food, new clothes, and other essential items for their children.
So far, the CCB has helped lift nearly 435,000 children out of poverty by giving more money, tax-free, to 9 out of 10 families. For further information on the CCB, visit: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/canada-child-benefit-overview.html.
Recently, I was pleased to join our Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development Ahmed Hussen and parents from across the Prairies, to discuss how the CCB has impacted their lives and communities.
