Statement by Terry Duguid on Violence in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza
May 13, 2021
Palestinians and Israeli’s rightfully deserve to live in peace and their human rights, safety, and dignity must be upheld and protected.
I am deeply disturbed by the ongoing, unlawful acts of violence in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.
In particular, I have been saddened and gravely concerned by the violence in Sheikh Jarrah and at the Al-Aqsa mosque, occurring during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
I strongly condemn these unacceptable acts of violence and have been heartbroken to see the loss of life and injury, particularly of young children, that is occurring.
Civilian families and children are paying the dire price of death, injury and displacement as a result of these actions, which must stop now.
All parties share a responsibility to condemn and prevent violence in all forms. I support our government’s urgent call for immediate de-escalation of violence to protect civilian lives.
