HOUSING INVESTMENT IN HABITAT FOR HUMANITY MANITOBA
August 14, 2020

Supporting those who are most vulnerable in our community, particularly those experiencing homelessness, is a top priority for the Government of Canada. That is why I was pleased to join Habitat for Humanity Manitoba in announcing $3 million to support their home building program over three years. This funding is expected to help construct 60 new affordable homes for families in Winnipeg.

I am also pleased to join Wahbung Abinoonjiiag Inc. in announcing another $600,000 in funding that will allocated towards their housing project on Watt Street, which will provide affordable housing options for those at risk of homelessness and/or those experiencing family violence.

These two investments are part of the Government of Canada's National Housing Strategy, which is Canada's 10-year, $55 billion+ plan that will help more Canadians have a place to call home. Through this plan, we're aiming to reduce chronic homelessness by 50 percent, create up to 125,000 new housing units, repair 300,000 existing ones, and remove 530,000 households from housing need.

Through partnerships between all levels of government, housing advocates and organizations like Habitat for Humanity Manitoba and Wahbung Abinoonjiiag Inc., we can reach our ambitious targets and help make a meaningful difference in the lives of Canadians.
