May has been a busy month in Winnipeg South, and I was very pleased to participate in two special events to honour and support women.
Meadowood United Church in St. Vital held their Mother’s Day Tea on May 11, and invited me to serve tables along with members of their Men’s Group. What a great way for this vibrant church to celebrate spouses, mothers and grandmothers who are at the heart of families and communities every day. Lots of smiles, tasty treats and great conversations!
I also participated in the “SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. Run for Women” on Mother’s Day Sunday. An incredible initiative which supports local mental health services for women, the “SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU.” run has raised over $3.4 million dollars for programs that allow women seeking support to take that next step to better mental health.
Each year, May provides special opportunities to let the women in our lives – parents, grandparents, spouses, partners, children, friends and colleagues – know how much we appreciate their hard work at home, in our communities, and in our workplaces. I am glad that I got the chance to spend this Mother’s Day weekend doing just that, back home with my family and community in Winnipeg South.
